Westchester County Department of Correction's Emergency Service Unit (ESU) is a team of highly trained correction officers and supervisors whose primary function is to respond to all emergencies that might occur on a daily basis.
ESU staff training consists of defensive tactics, firearms, chemical agents, riot control and less-than-lethal force applications. In existence since 1994, the unit responds to between 500 and 600 incidents each year. Incidents include inmate altercations, assaults on staff, elevator rescues, hostage rescues etc. The Unit Commander is Capt. Keith Camera.
