The Westchester County Department of Correction serves the public with an efficiently operated, secure and humane correction system. It uses innovation and technology in many ways, such as offering a credit card bail system to inmates and a notification system for crime victims to check on the release of prisoners. The department is made up of three divisions: administration, jail and penitentiary and is headed by Commissioner Joseph K. Spano.
Located in Valhalla, New York, the prison complex consists of: - a jail for people (16 years or older) accused of a crime or awaiting sentencing and
- a penitentiary for men sentenced to terms of under one year
The jail and prison comply with all local, state and federal legal requirements as well as nationally accepted professional correctional standards.
